Hood County Safe Baby Site and Mobil Safe Baby Site

Granbury Hood County E.M.S., Inc. held a  press conference today, September 7, 2006 at EMS Station 1 to kick off a Mobil Safe Baby Program and to increase public awareness of the Baby Moses Program.

The State House and Senate passed the Baby Moses Law on June 6, 1999 as the country's first newborn abandonment bill into law. The "Baby Moses Law" allows a parent of a baby younger than 60 days old to voluntarily turn over the baby to a designated emergency infant care provider and protects the parents from criminal prosecution when they deliver the unharmed child to a designated emergency provider, rather than a dangerous location.

EMS stations, fire stations, and hospitals were chosen as safe havens because of their ability to provide the necessary medical attention after birth, and their geographic locations. We at Hood County EMS would like to create a safe alternative for abandoned and/or unwanted babies, and protect those parents from criminal prosecution.
